Residents of the housing society in Sector 22D of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area are grappling with a severe lack of basic amenities, despite having purchased flats worth hundreds of thousands of rupees. The situation has led to immense anger among residents, who feel neglected by both the Authority and the Electricity Corporation.
Low Occupancy Due To Poor Facilities
The lack of essential services has severely impacted the occupancy rate of the society.
Total Flats: Approximately 7,000 flats have been constructed.
Current Occupancy: Only 300 families are currently residing there.
Impact: Most buyers are unwilling to move in even after taking possession due to the dire state of facilities.
The Electricity Crisis
The most pressing issue facing the residents is a persistent power shortage, exacerbated by a blame game between YEIDA and the Electricity Corporation.
Transformer Breakdown: To meet the society's needs, 21 transformers (400 kVA) are required. However, 8 transformers have been out of order for about a month.
Current Status: Only 13 transformers are operational, disrupting the supply to many flats.
Voltage Issues: Residents allege that the power supplied is at a low voltage, damaging appliances and causing inconvenience.
Security And Theft: Due to a lack of security, thieves have stolen copper strips from the transformers, causing frequent disruptions.
Infrastructure Decay: Lifts And Seepage
Beyond electricity, the physical infrastructure of the society is deteriorating rapidly.
Faulty Lifts: Most lifts in the high-rise society are faulty. Residents report that lifts often stop mid-journey, forcing many to use stairs to reach floors as high as the 10th floor.
Severe Seepage: There are leaks in water pipes in several places. The seepage is so severe that the walls of the rooms are on the verge of being damaged.
The Official Blame Game
While residents suffer, officials from the responsible bodies have offered conflicting statements and shifted responsibility.
The Electricity Corporation's Stance Ajay Gupta, Electricity Sub-Divisional Officer (Dankaur), stated that the power supply is reaching all flats and is not disrupted from their end. He claimed:
"The faulty transformers were installed by the Yamuna Authority. An electricity substation has been constructed in Sector 22D and will be handed over soon, which will further improve the supply."
The Yamuna Authority's Stance Rajendra Bhati, General Manager (YEIDA), downplayed the severity of the situation. He stated, "Just three days ago, we inspected the society and spoke with residents; they did not report any serious problems. There are one or two minor issues which will be resolved soon. The electricity problem is for the Electricity Corporation to resolve. A recent line fault causing disruption has been fixed."
Resident Voices
Residents have expressed deep frustration over the apathy shown by officials.
Rakesh Tripathi (President, Sector 22D Association): "The society is plagued with problems. The electricity issue is particularly severe. Officials from the Electricity Corporation and the Yamuna Authority are not serious about resolving the problem."
Shashank Srivastava: "The lifts in the society are out of order, making it difficult to reach the flats on the upper floors. Often, the lifts stop mid-journey."
Arvind Sharma: "The problem of seepage has worsened. If the issue is not resolved, the walls of the rooms will become dilapidated."
Kishor Chand Dungriyal: "There has been an electricity supply problem for a long time, but it has become more severe in the last month. It is becoming difficult to live here."
