The first instalment of Rs 2,100 credited to beneficiaries under the Haryana government’s Lado Lakshmi Yojana has sparked joy and hope among women, marking a step towards financial empowerment and self-reliance. Though modest in value, the amount is being seen as a meaningful support toward fulfilling personal and family aspirations.
Under the scheme, 20,302 women in Gurugram are eligible, and in the first phase, applications of 9,932 beneficiaries have been approved. Funds have been transferred to the accounts of 2,950 women so far. Officials said the remaining eligible women will also receive the benefit soon, as the application process continues.
Women across villages expressed gratitude, describing the assistance as a symbol of respect and encouragement. Many shared their plans for the amount, ranging from purchasing essential household items to investing in education and long-term savings.
Sushma from Aklimpur said she will finally buy a saree for her mother, calling the assistance “not just money, but respect.” Mamta, also from Aklimpur, plans to use the funds for coaching fees, saying the scheme boosts confidence in female education and empowerment. Several women, including Yashoda from Mahendwada and Simran from Chandu, said the support will help with savings and essential expenses.
Officials noted that the scheme aligns with the state’s focus on women’s empowerment, alongside initiatives such as the Lakhpati Didi program and the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign.
Parivar Pehchan Patra Authority coordinator Dr Satish Khola said the government has fulfilled its promise within a year, while Sarpanch Association Secretary Sudhanshu Bhardwaj called the fund transfer a “special Haryana Day gift” for women.
