Manikarnika Snan 2025: Vaikuntha Chaturdashi marks the sacred event of Manikarnika Snan. On this sacred occasion, devotees take a holy dip in the Manikarnika Ghat located in Varanasi, the abode of Lord Kashi Vishwanath. According to the Hindi Panchang, Manikarnika Snan is observed on the Chaturdashi tithi or 14th day of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik. It is believed that taking a sacred dip at the Manikarnika Ghat on the occasion of Vaikuntha Chaturdashi brings auspicious results and salvation. The Manikarika Ghat is also considered as the grand cremation ground in Hinduism. This year, Manikarnika Snan will be performed by the devotees on 4th November 2025, as Vaikuntha Chaturdashi falls on the same day.

What is the significance of Manikarnika Snan?
It is believed that Lord Vishnu took a bath at the Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi and worshipped Lord Shiva on the sacred occasion of Vaikuntha Chaturdashi. As Lord Vishnu is the Aradhya of Lord Shiva, Mahadev was pleased by his generosity and blessed him on this day. As per the scriptures, Lord Shiva also asserted that anyone who takes a sacred dip at the Manikarnika Ghat will be freed from the cycle of birth and death and attain moksha. Such a person will also experience worldly happiness while living in this world. Many ancient legends are associated with this ghat, each highlighting its great spiritual significance. It is said that those who bathe at Manikarnika Ghat in Kashi attain liberation from the cycle of life and death.

Importance Of Manikarnika Ghat In Hinduism
Manikarnika Ghat is located on the banks of the River Ganges in Varanasi and is considered to represent the ultimate truth of life. Cremation also takes place at this ghat which is why it is known as Mokshadayini Ghat, meaning the place that grants liberation. It is also called Mahasmashana, meaning the great cremation ground.
One pyre is lit before another is extinguished. The sacred fire here never extinguishes. It is believed that anyone cremated at this ghat attains salvation, as Lord Shiva himself comes and chants the sacred Taraka Mantra into the ears of the dead body.
Manikarnika Snan 2025: Rituals
On the occasion of Manikarnika Snan, devotees wake up early in the morning, preferably during the Brahma Muhurata and meditate on Lord Shiva. Thereafter, they take a sacred dip at Manikarnika Ghat in the last quarter of the night. Numerous devotees gather in Varanasi during this auspicious time.

Hindu devotees additionally worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Sati. They seek forgiveness for all the sins committed in their present and past lives. Additionally, donating clothes, food, or money to Brahmins after the Manikarnika Snan is considered highly virtuous.
