Bhishma Panchak 2025: Significance
What Is Bhishma Panchak? Know Its Significance
During the Mahabharata, when Bhishma Pitamah took the vow of voluntary death, he waited for the Sun to move northward. During these five days, from Ekadashi to Purnima in the month of Kartik, he meditated on Lord Krishna and imparted knowledge of Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha to the Pandavas. Lord Krishna also named these five days Bhishma Panchak, describing them as extremely auspicious. Therefore, when the Panchak period falls around Ekadashi, it is called Bhishma Panchak. It is believed that worship, fasting, and charity during this period lead to salvation.
According to the sacred Hindu beliefs, worshipping with proper rituals during the five days of Bhishma Panchak bestows happiness and prosperity upon the devotee. Those observing this fast receive the blessings of Lord Vishnu throughout the year. It is believed that anyone who bathes before sunrise on all five days of Bhishma Panchak and worships Lord Hari during the auspicious time receives the merits of taking a sacred bath at all holy places.
