Hari Har Milan 2025 Ujjain: Significance

Why Hari Har Milan Is Celebrated?

A Hindu legend explains why Hari Har Milan is so significant. It is believed that during the Chaturmas period, Lord Vishnu rests in the Patal Loka, handing over the responsibility of running the world order to Mahadev. When Lord Vishnu awakens from his sleep on Devuthani Ekadashi, Mahadev reassigns him the responsibility of managing the universe. The Hari-Har meeting is a symbolic representation of this "handing over of responsibility" story.

Two days after Devuthani Ekadashi, on Vaikuntha Chaturdashi, Mahakal comes to Gopalji's temple in his chariot to hand over the responsibility of creation back to him. It is believed that after handing over this responsibility, Baba Mahakal returns to his original place, the cremation ground, and immerses himself in ashes.
