Vaikuntha Chaturdashi 2025: Significance
According to the Shiva Purana, Lord Vishnu went to Varanasi to worship Lord Shiva on Kartik Shukla Chaturdashi. Lord Vishnu then ritually worshipped Lord Shiva with a thousand lotus flowers. Lord Shiva was deeply pleased seeing Lord Vishnu’s devotion, who is also his Aradhya. It is said that the tradition of worshipping both deities together on Vaikuntha Chaturdashi began after this incident.

The day of Baikuntha Chaturdashi or Vaikuntha Chaturdashi symbolises the sacred union of Har (Lord Shiva) and Hari (Lord Vishnu). On this day, devotees observe a fast and worship both deities. Hari Har Milan holds special significance because it is the day when Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu are worshipped together. Doing so brings happiness, prosperity and peace to life. It is believed that worshipping both the deities with utmost faith on this day alleviates a person's suffering and vanishes all the defects in their horoscope.

Vaikuntha Chaturdashi 2025: Rituals
On Vaikuntha Chaturdashi, Lord Vishnu is worshipped during Nishithkaal, which is midnight according to the Hindu calendar. Lord Shiva is worshipped during Arunodayakaal, which is the morning time. On this day, devotees of Lord Shiva take a bath at sunrise at Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi. This sacred bath is known as Manikarnika Snan. This is the only day when Lord Vishnu is seated in the sanctum sanctorum of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. On this day, both deities are worshipped as if they are worshipping each other. On this day, Lord Vishnu offers Tulsi leaves to Lord Shiva, while Lord Shiva offers Belpatra to Lord Vishnu.
