Dronacharya Government College, Gurugram, is strengthening its reputation as a hub for both academics and sports. With around 8,000 students enrolled and more than 40 men’s and women’s teams across various disciplines, the college remains the top choice for aspiring athletes.
The administration is rapidly upgrading sports facilities on campus. Renovation work on the mini-stadium, being developed by a private organisation under its CSR initiative, is currently underway, including ground levelling and grass-laying. Plans are also in motion to construct dedicated wrestling and kabaddi halls.
Established in 1951 on Railway Road, the college traces its roots back to pre-independence Gujranwala, Pakistan, where it operated as Sanatan Dharma Hindu College. It was later taken over by the government and renamed Dronacharya Government College.
Head of Sports, Sunil Dabas, said the college offers indoor facilities for cricket, football, volleyball, kabaddi, basketball, and judo, and its students consistently excel in inter-college events to All India University competitions.
To support athletes in Olympic sports such as basketball, volleyball, wrestling, and kabaddi, an action plan has been prepared to upgrade related infrastructure. Gurgaon MLA and Olympic Association Vice President Mukesh Sharma, also an alumnus, has sought to execute these projects through the Haryana Olympic Association or CSR funding.

The institution is also being developed as a Model Sanskriti College. Under Sharma’s initiative, a private organisation is constructing a mini-stadium and 15 boys’ toilets as part of its CSR contribution.
“Work on enhancing sports facilities is progressing rapidly,” said Principal Dr Pushpa Antil.
