10,000 electric buses will be provided to Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Nashik, Jodhpur and Haridwar among 75 cities which are participating in the PM-eBus Sewa, the Lok Sabha was informed on Thursday. 

A PTI report stated that replying to a question, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu informed that Rs 201.18 crore had been spent under the scheme, so far which was launched in August 2023. Further, Rs 541 crore has been allocated in the vote-on-account for the scheme in the 2024-25 fiscal year.

As per reports, the Union Cabinet approved the scheme to increase green mobility. Tokhan Sahu said that the central assistance would be provided for bus operations for a period of 10 years or up to March 2037, whichever was earlier.

Other cities participating in the scheme are Rajkot, Jamnagar, Hisar, Rohtak, Faridabad, Thane, Ahmednagar, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Ujjain, Jodhpur, Dehradun, Patiala and Ludhiana, PTI report added.

In another update, the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), informed that the rooftop terrace garden project over Palika Bazar in Connaught Place is in its final stages and is likely to be inaugurated by August 15. NDMC Vice Chairperson Satish Upadhyay stated that the civil work has been completed, and the horticulture department is currently undertaking the final phase of greening, which includes laying grass in the area.

"Installation of grilles in a section is being taken up along with grassing of the rooftop. The terrace garden area is likely to be opened for public use by August 15," Upadhyay said.

The vice chairperson also added that this open public space will consist of a granite pathway for walking and jogging, seating decks, LED-lit footpaths and landscaped lawns in the form of terrace steps.
