Three friends, returning to Pune from a trip to Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir, died after the Toyota Fortuner they were travelling in veered off the road, hit a divider and plunged off a flyover on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Kota, Rajasthan.

The accident took place around 10.30 AM on Wednesday near Balapura village under Kaithoon police station limits, news agency PTI reported.

Three Killed After Fortuner Falls Off Flyover On Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

According to police, a group of 10 friends was returning to Pune from Ladakh in three separate vehicles. While the two other cars had stopped for a break, the Toyota Fortuner carrying Sidhant Allat (21), Kunal Chordiya (25) and Mayurewa Padle (23) continued ahead, NDTV reported. The group had left for the trip on February 27.

According to the police, the driver may have dozed off, causing the vehicle to hit a divider between Karadia and Balapura before plunging off a flyover into a large dry sewer. The impact was so severe that the car was blown into pieces.

"The driver lost control of the SUV, and it fell off the flyover. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely mangled," NDTV quoted Kaithun Station House Officer (SHO) Manoj Singh Sikarwar as saying.

Soon after, locals and passersby rushed to the spot and managed to pull out the bodies. The three on board were rushed to a local hospital, where they were declared dead.

An official stated that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem in the mortuary of Community Health Centre Kaithoon, and the families of the victims have been notified. An investigation is underway.
