Northeast Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday stated that the northeastern states are expected to receive heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds, in the upcoming few days. The weather department stated that the residents of Assam, Manipur, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh have suffered massively due to the rainfall, landslides, and floods in the past few days. It further stated that the heavy rainfall is likely to affect thousands of people across these states, further warning the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.

The weather department stated that while Assam and Meghalaya are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next few days, other states, including Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura, are also likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall till June 8. The weather department stated that the rainfall is likely to affect the livelihood in multiple ways, including waterlogging, power outages, and infrastructure damage.

IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert For Assam

The weather department stated that several districts of Assam are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the upcoming few days. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) had earlier informed that 8 people have died in Assam due to landslides following continuous rainfall over the past 24 hours. It further stated that the floods have massively affected six districts of the state, affecting almost 10,000 people. The department further informed that all five reported deaths occurred in the Kamrup Metropolitan district.

Arunachal Pradesh To Witness Rain, Gusty Winds

The IMD stated that Arunachal Pradesh is likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall in the upcoming few days. The weather department stated that the heavy rainfall might lead to landslides and flood-like situations. It further informed that 9 people have died due to similar conditions. In the East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, a landslide swept a car off the road, resulting in the death of seven members from two families.

Heavy Rain Leads To Waterlogging In Sikkim

The weather department stated that several regions of Sikkim are set to receive rainfall till June 7, adding that the state has witnessed multiple infrastructure damage due to the rainfall in the past few days. It informed that two bridges in the Mangan district got partially damaged, leaving several tourists stranded.

Manipur Weather Update

The IMD stated that the rainfall has led to waterlogging and flood-like situations in several regions of Manipur, leading to inconveniences to the residents. Several government offices, hospitals, and the All India Radio Imphal complex faced the issue of waterlogging in the past few days.

Rainfall Expected In Tripura

The weather department has issued a red alert for all eight districts of the state. Amid rising water levels in these districts, 14 rescue teams have been deployed for safety purposes. The IMD further stated that the districts will witness rainfall, along with gusty winds and thunderstorms, till June 7.
