8th Pay Commission Alert: A major update has emerged regarding the Eighth Pay Commission with the timeline now almost clear. But the real question remains - when will employees' salaries and pensions increase, and how much will they benefit?

The government in a written reply to Parliament, said,"The 8th Central Pay Commission was constituted on November 3, 2025. This commission has been given 18 months to submit its recommendations. This means that the final report on salaries, allowances, and pensions could be released by the end of 2026."

The government has also clarified that the true impact the salary hike will only be known when the commission's recommendations are approved. At present, this is only the beginning of the process, not a final decision.

Suggestions Accepted Till March 31

The Commission is also seeking suggestions from various stakeholders. A 18-question form has been released on the MyGov portal, allowing ministries, state governments, employees, pensioners, and the public to provide their feedback. The deadline for submitting suggestions is March 31, 2026.

When Will Salary Increase?

Although the Eighth Pay Commission is supposed to be implemented on paper starting January 1, 2026, the actual salary increases will be credited to employees' accounts later. According to Jagran Business, experts believe this benefit could be realised by the end of 2026 or in the 2026-27 fiscal year.

However, the only relief is that employees will receive arrears. This means that even if salaries are increased later, the calculation will be made as of January 1, 2026, the date the 7th Pay Commission period ends.

How Much Will Salary Increase?

While no official figures have been released by the government, estimates range from a 20 per cent to a 35 per cent increase. The fitment factor is expected to be between 2.4 and 3.0. By comparison, the 6th Pay Commission saw an increase of approximately 40 per cent, and the 7th saw an increase of 23-25 per cent, with a fitment factor of 2.57.

However, the final decision will depend on many factors, such as inflation, the government's financial situation, tax collection, and political circumstances. Therefore, the figures currently being released are only estimates, not guarantees.

This means it is clear that the timeline has been decided, but employees will have to wait a little longer to see the actual increase in salary and pension.
