'Nothing To Do With It': Aaditya Thackeray After Bombay HC Orders CBI Probe In Disha Salian Death Case

Disha Salian Death Case: The Shiv Sena MLA and former Maharashtra minister, Aaditya Thackeray, on Thursday said that he has nothing to do with the Disha Salian death case and does not need to comment on the matter.

"It's something that I have nothing to do about and have not even thought about. Why should I even respond to this? The BJP tries to defame everybody. They have tried to make Rahul Gandhi a 'Pappu' for years. They have tried to defame me for the last six years. Anybody who pricks the BJP, they have a problem with them. Like I said, when you have nothing to do with anything, why speak on anything or give it any importance? That's my stand...," he said.

Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane's Allegation

Earlier, Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane had said that if Thackeray and others named in the case had nothing to do with Salian's death, they should come forward and present their side of the story. Rane asserted that he had maintained from the beginning that her death should not be considered a suicide.

Who was Disha Salian?

Salian, who had briefly worked as manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, died on June 8, 2020, after falling off the 12th floor of a residential building in Mumbai's Malad area. The police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case.

A week later, the actor was also found dead in his apartment on June 14, 2020, raising speculation that there could be a link between the two deaths. The uproar led to the Maharashtra government ordering a CBI probe into Rajput's death. The agency submitted its closure report stating that the deceased had died by suicide, but the report is yet to be heard by the court concerned.

Bombay HC Orders CBI Probe

The development came a day after the Bombay High Court ordered a CBI probe into the death of Salian and pulled up the Mumbai Police for failing to register an FIR for six years, observing that their probe raises more questions than answers.

A division bench of Justices Sarang Kotwal and Ranjitsinha Raja Bhonsale said that an investigation cannot drag on for an inordinately long period, emphasising that a central agency probe was necessary to ensure a proper and substantive investigation into the matter.

The bench criticised the police for treating it only as an accidental death for six years and noted "glaring discrepancies" in their investigation.

How Aaditya Thackeray's Name Was Dragged Into The Case

Disha's father Satish Salian had raised suspicion about the circumstances in which she died in 2020 and approached the HC. He sought an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray.

The high court asked the CBI to register an FIR and record the statement of Disha's father, but clarified that no person shall be treated as an accused until and unless there is sufficient material gathered against them during the probe. The High Court refrained from making remarks against any individual, noting it was up to the central agency to investigate the case.
