Air India Crash Report: The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), the agency investigating the Ahmedabad plane crash, released its 15-page preliminary report on Saturday. The report revealed the last moment conversation between the two pilots inside the cockpit of the AI171 ahead of the fatal crash. The London-bound Air India flight crashed into a medical hospital minutes after taking off from the Ahmedabad international airport on June 12, killing 270 people.
The preliminary report suggests that while one of the pilots questioned the fuel cut-off to both engines, the other responded by saying that he had not done it. "Why did you cut off?" the first pilot asked, just after taking off; however, the second pilot responded, "I did not do so." The report stated that the aircraft crashed moments after this conversation between the pilots, leading to the death of 270. "In the cockpit voice recording, one of the pilots is heard asking the other why he cutoff. The other pilot responded that he did not do so," the report stated.
The initial report suggests that both the engines of the aircraft had shut down moments after the takeoff, leading to the mayday call. While providing details, AAIB stated that both the engines have been quarantined for further investigation. "Both engines were retrieved from the wreckage site and quarantined at a hangar in the airport," the report stated. "Components of interest for further examinations have been identified and quarantined," it added.
