Delhi Assembly Election: Voting for all 70 seats in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha Elections 2025 is ongoing from 7 AM on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have launched serious allegations against each other.

In Seelampur, BJP candidate Anil Goel has accused Muslim women of wearing burqas to cast fraudulent votes. However, the Election Commission has dismissed the BJP leader’s claim as baseless.

On the other hand, AAP candidate Saurabh Bhardwaj from the Greater Kailash assembly seat has alleged that the Delhi Police is attempting to stop people from voting at a polling booth in Chirag Delhi. He stated to the ACP of Malviya Nagar, "You have been standing here since morning to influence the election. Why have barricades been placed here? Which senior officer of the Delhi Police instructed you to place the barricades?"

The AAP leader further said, "This is being done to trouble the poor villagers. The ACP of Malviya Nagar and the SHO are openly doing this in areas where AAP has a stronghold. The SHO raided our private premises last night. There are a large number of voters here. This is happening at all 17-18 polling booths in Chirag Delhi. People cannot come by metro, nor can they vote on the roads… Did Virender Sachdeva or President Murmu get out of their cars more than 200 meters from the polling station? There are no guidelines for this..."

What did the police say about AAP leader's allegations?

In response to AAP leader’s allegations, South Delhi DCP Ankit Chauhan stated that there is an Election Commission guideline to stop vehicles 200 meters away from the polling booths. However, exceptions are made for the elderly and those unable to walk, allowing them to bring their cars closer. This rule is being implemented everywhere, and we will investigate the areas where Saurabh Bhardwaj has raised concerns.
