Abhishek Ghosalkar, a prominent Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, died after being shot several times in Mumbai's Dahisar during a Facebook Live session by a local 'social activist', who later killed himself, an official cited by news agency PTI said on Friday. The purported murder-suicide took place on Thursday.
Two teams have been formed by the Crime Branch of Mumbai police to probe the entire incident. The murder-accused has been identified as Mauris Noronha, who allegedly died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. While one team of the Crime Branch is probing Ghosalkar's murder, the other one is looking into the "accidental" death of Noronha, the official informed. So far, one individual has been detained in connection with Ghosalkar's kiling, ANI reported.
According to the police, the apprehended individual has been identified as Mehul. A video of the incident in question went viral on social media, showing Abhishek being shot in the abdomen and shoulder. According to the police, Abhishek and Noroha were meeting to resolve differences resulting from their "personal enmity". The incident occurred at Noronha's office in IC Colony in the northern suburb of Borivali (West).
Who Was Abhishek Ghosalkar?
- Abhishek, the 40-year-old murder victim, was the son of former MLA Vinod Ghosalkar. Abhishek's father is considered a loyalist of the faction of the Shiv Sena led by former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
- Abhishek had served as a corporator in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
- According to a report by Hindustan Times, Abhishek Ghosalkar the director of Mumbai District Central Co-operative Bank.
- He was purportedly a close aide of Shiv Sena (UBT) scion and former Maharashtra minister Aditya Thackeray.
- Abhishek had married Tejasvee Darekar in 2013, Hindustan Times said in its report.
