Police recovered a chilling confession note from the man who allegedly murdered his girlfriend and dismembered her body before dying by suicide in Bengaluru. According to the note, the accused, Mukhti Ranjan Roy, claimed he killed Mahalaxmi in "self-defence", alleging that she had planned to kill him and dispose of his body in a suitcase. The case, which has drawn comparisons to the infamous Shraddha Walkar murder, gained headlines as the body parts of the victims were found inside a refrigerator.

The note further alleged that Mahalaxmi, who was pressuring Roy to marry her, physically assaulted him when her demands, which included gifts like a gold chain and Rs 7 lakh, were not met. The accused claimed that Mahalaxmi had intended to kill him first, citing the presence of a black suitcase in her house, which he alleged was intended to transport his body.

"Her intention was to cut my body into pieces, put them in the suitcase and throw them away after killing me. If I had not killed her, Mahalaxmi would have killed me and dumped my body. I killed her in self-defence," the note read, adding "Mahalaxmi's demand was continuously increasing, even though I had given her a gold chain and Rs 7 lakh. She also beats me up," the note added as quoted by NDTV.

Mahalaxmi, last seen on September 1 at her workplace, had been missing for weeks until her decomposed, dismembered remains were discovered in her refrigerator on September 21 by her mother. Her body was cut into over 50 pieces and bloodstains were found in her washroom. Investigators revealed that Roy killed Mahalaxmi on the night of September 2-3, bought a sharp weapon and dismembered her body the following morning.

Roy fled to Odisha with his younger brother after the murder. Police traced him to Bhadrak, but by the time they arrived, Roy had taken his own life. Near his body, authorities found a suicide note in which he confessed to strangling Mahalaxmi and dismembering her body. Police also discovered that Mahalaxmi, originally from Tripura, was married and had a child, though she lived separately.

The case has shocked the city due to its gruesome nature and striking similarities to the Shraddha Walkar case of 2022.
