In a joint operation of Uttar Pradesh STF and Punjab Police, an "active terrorist" of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) with alleged links to Pakistan's ISI was arrested in the early hours of Thursday. An official stated that the suspected terrorist is a resident of Kurlian village in the Ramdas area of Amritsar and was arrested around 3.20 am from the Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh.

While providing details, Additional Director General of Police (UP Special Task Force, Law and Order) Amitabh Yash said that Lajar Masih (the suspected terrorist) is in direct touch with ISI operatives.

"As per available information, the arrested terrorist works for Swarn Singh alias Jeevan Fauji, the head of the Germany-based module of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and is in direct touch with Pakistan-based ISI operatives," Yash was quoted as saying by PTI.

The official stated the UP STF also recovered some of the suspicious materials from the site, adding that they successfully recovered some explosive material and illegal arms from the terrorist. While providing details, he said that the UP STF seized three active hand grenades, two active detonators, one foreign-made pistol, and 13 cartridges of foreign make.

Apart from this, a white coloured explosive powder, an Aadhaar card with a Ghaziabad address, and one mobile phone without a SIM card were also recovered from the terrorist, the official stated.

The official further stated that the terrorist had escaped from judicial custody last year. He added that the Punjab police were in search of the terrorist since then, adding that UP STF joined the Punjab police after it was known that the terrorist was residing in Uttar Pradesh. "This terrorist had escaped from judicial custody in Punjab on September 24, 2024," the ADG added.

The Punjab police have conducted multiple operations in the recent months against the individuals having links with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
