Robert Vadra ED Case: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday reacted to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) chargesheet against businessman and brother-in-law of Rahul Gandhi, Robert Vadra, calling it as an attempt to bring bad name to him and the Gandhi family. He also said that the ED attempted to target the Congress party. Vadra was chargesheeted in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in a land deal in Haryana's Shikohpur.
Kharge said, "What has been done to Vadra, is to take revenge on a person, to target a party, they are doing all this. It is done as part of an attempt to bring a bad name to the Vadra and Gandhi family. They will never be successful in it. There are courts."
The trouble that is being given to Vadra is not right, he said, adding they support his good work.
Rahul Gandhi Backs Robert Vadra
Kharge's backing comes a day after Gandhi lent his support to his brother-in-law, accusing the government of launching a witch-hunt against his brother-in-law Robert Vadra after the brobe agency filed a charge sheet against the businessman in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in a land deal in Haryana's Shikohpur.
Gandhi also asserted that the truth shall eventually prevail and that his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her family will withstand any kind of "persecution". The ED on Thursday filed a prosecution complaint naming 56-year-old Vadra in the criminal case.
"My brother-in-law has been hounded by this government for the last ten years. This latest chargesheet is a continuation of that witch hunt. I stand with Robert, Priyanka and their children as they face yet another onslaught of malicious, politically motivated slander and harassment," he said in an X post.
Gandhi said, "I know that they are all brave enough to withstand any kind of persecution and they will continue to do so with dignity". "The truth will eventually prevail," the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha asserted, in his first public comments in support of Vadra.
