Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Friday responded to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey (without taking any name) by daring him to come to Mumbai. While responding to Dubey's "patak patak ke maarenge" remark, Thackeray said that if the BJP MP ever came to Mumbai, the people will thrash him by drowning him repeatedly in the Mumbai sea. In a public rally, Thackeray emphasised that he will not tolerate any threats to Maharashtrians, adding that strict action will be taken against those working against the "Maratha spirit".
While reacting to Debey's comments, Thackeray claimed that a BJP MP had thretedned people of Maharashtra, adding that people will take strict if he ever comes to Mumbai. “A BJP MP said ‘Marathi logon ko hum yahan pe patak patak ke maarenge’ (we will thrash Marathi people here mercilessly)... You come to Mumbai. Mumbai ke samundar mein dubo dubo ke maarenge. (We will thrash them by drowning them repeatedly in the Mumbai sea)," Thackeray stated at a rally in Mira Bhayandar.
Earlier last week, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had criticised Thackeray and his party workers for allegedly beating the non-Marathi speaking people in Maharashtra. He further stated that if the big boss (referring to Thackeray) comes out of Maharashtra, he will be thrashed repeatedly.
“If you are courageous enough and beat those who speak Hindi, then you should beat all those who speak Urdu, Tamil, and Telugu... Come to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu – tumko patak patak ke maarenge (you will be thrashed badly, again and again). This anarchy won’t work,” Dubey was quoted as saying by ANI.
A massive political row erupted after the MNS party members slapped few non-Marathi speaking people, directing them to learn the language of Maharashtra if they want to continue working here. Severel prominent politicians, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that while an individual should be proud of their language, it is not right to thrash someone for not speaking it.
