In the deadliest airplane crash in recent history, 241 out of 242 onboard died on Thursday after a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft of Air India crashed minutes after it took off from the Ahmedabad airport.

The London-bound plane crashed into a BJ Medical College building, causing widespread chaos and inflicting casualties, taking the overall death count to around 265. The plane crashed in a densely populated area, and thus, the locals were the first to rush to the site.

Among the deceased were former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, two pilots, and 10 crew members. Here are the top developments in the aftermath of one of the deadliest plane crashes.

1. Death Count reaches 265: So far, 265 bodies have reached the hospital, Deputy Commissioner of Police Kanan Desai. This includes 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian national, and several other doctors and students of the BJ Medical College.

2. A day after the tragic crash, PM Modi will visit Ahmedabad today. He will took stock of the situation and visit the Ahmedabad civil hospital. Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, state Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Union Minister CR Patil have reaced the Ahmedabad airport domestic terminal.   

3. Providing details about the accident, Home Minister Amit Shah said that the inferno formed after the crash by burning fuel made the rescue operation nearly impossible as the temperature rose to around 1,000 degrees Celsius.

4. Seven NDRF teams were carrying out the rescue operation while the SDRF rushed to the BJ Medical College soon after the crash.

5. Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has launched an investigation into the crash. Additionally, the government is setting up a high-level panel of experts to conduct an in-depth analysis of the tragic incident.

6. The UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has offered assistance in the probe to AAIB. UK AAIB said, "We are deploying a multidisciplinary investigation team to India to support the Indian led investigation."

"Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic accident", it added. The Indian High Commission has set up a hotline to provide emergency visas to families of those killed in the plane crash. The US NTSB will also assist the AAIB.

7. The plane that crashed was being flown by experienced and skilled pilots. Both pilots of the plane had thousands of hours of flying experience. The captain of the plane, Sumit Sabarwal, was a very experienced pilot. He had about 8,200 hours of flying experience. While his co-pilot was First Officer Clive Kunder. He had 1,100 hours of flying experience.

8. A British national of Indian origin, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, is the lone survivor of the crash. His vision of walking surprised many as his survival is no less than a miracle. He sustained injuries to his feet, eyes, and chest. He was rushed to the hospital immediately. Speaking about the crash, Vishwash said, "Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly."

9. Air India has set up Friends & Relatives Assistance Centres at Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi and Gatwick airports to provide support and take care of the needs of the families and loved ones of those on flight AI171.

10. Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg talked to Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran and expressed condolences while extending full support. Meanwhile, Tata has announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore to each of the deceased's kin.
