The road connecting the YMCA Club to the Karnavati Club junction is expected to reopen on June 12. Construction work has been underway for a few days, following which the daily commuters were struggling to travel across the area.
Relief To The Commuters
The construction was spread over an area of about 1.2 km, which affected the travellers of the area. Motorists from Sanand Chowkdi faced difficulties on a daily basis.
The road will be in operation from June 12. At the time of the construction, nearly 2 lakh motorists had to travel an extra distance of 2-3 kilometres. The YMCA is creating a bridge to connect Sanand Flyover to ISKCON Junction. The state government has provided a sum of Rs 550 crore for the construction of the bridge.
The bridge will be the second largest bridge in the city. The road was first scheduled to be opened on June 1; however, a delay in the construction work postponed it to June 12. With the opening of the route, the commuters will be having to make a 3 km detour.
Significance Of The Corridor
The elevated corridor would be operational from August 1. When this 1.2-km elevated corridor becomes fully operational from August 1, motorists will be able to pass directly without stopping at the traffic and signals below. The corridor will not only save time but will also save a lot of fuel. This decision of the administration and quick work are causing great joy among the local residents and motorists.
Needless to say, the SG Highway has become one of Ahmedabad’s most important urban and commercial growth corridors in the last 10 years. This stretch connects key residential zones, corporate offices, and shopping hubs along with emerging western suburbs. However, heavy signal-based congestion at Prahladnagar and ISCON Junction has remained a major issue, especially during office hours. The elevated corridor is expected to improve faster east-west urban movement, connectivity between the Sanand industrial belt and central Ahmedabad, daily office commuting efficiency, and access toward corporate and retail hubs along SG Highway.
The project also strengthens Ahmedabad’s larger infrastructure push focused on reducing bottlenecks across rapidly urbanising zones.
The corridor is expected to become one of Ahmedabad’s most important urban mobility upgrades this year, with both traffic and real estate sectors likely to benefit over the coming years.
