As the IndiGo fiasco is affecting the flying operations across the country, its rival airline, Air India, announced fresh hiring for pilots with the banner ‘The sky is not the limit, it’s just the beginning’, calling for pilots to apply for a career in the Tata group. In the advertisement, Air India mentioned that it is looking to hire pilots for its fleet of Airbus A320 and Boeing 737- the backbone of the short to medium haul market.
An otherwise standard hiring advertisement, typically only relevant to working pilots, garnered significant social media attention because of a major industry event, the ongoing crisis impacting IndiGo, a key competitor of Air India.
India’s civil aviation sector is going through one of the roughest patches in modern times, with disruptions, cancellations, delays, and rescheduling of flights by IndiGo due to a sudden shortage of pilots and crew. The situation emerged after IndiGo enforced the revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) rules issued by the regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), last year.
Who Can Apply?
For the A320 fleet, Air India said it is looking for experienced ‘type-rated’ pilots in command. Meanwhile, for the B737 fleet, the airline is looking to hire both experienced ‘type-rated’ and ‘non-type rated’ pilots.

For those who are not familiar with ‘type rate’, it refers to a standard certification for pilots who have completed training and testing on a specific type of aircraft.
"Command the future of Indian aviation. We are inviting experienced B737 and A320 pilots to join our growing fleet. Submit your applications by December 22," in a post on Instagram the Air India said.
Air India's hiring call comes at a time when IndiGo is struggling to hire more pilots to stabilise flight operations affected by the new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rules, which were imposed by the government to ensure pilots get enough rest between flights. The changes in the FDTL rules led to a domino effect affecting the operations of IndiGo.
What Is The Last Day To Apply?
Interested candidates have to submit their application by December 22, as per the advertisement of Air India
