Air India on Wednesday said it has completed a precautionary inspection of the fuel control switches on all its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft following a complaint reported on a London-Bengaluru flight. The airline said no technical faults were found during the checks.
Air India currently operates a fleet of 33 Boeing 787 aircraft, of which 28 are in active service. The airline said the fuel control switches on all operational Dreamliners were rechecked as a safety measure.
According to Air India, the inspections were carried out purely as a precaution after a pilot reported an issue with the fuel control switch following a flight. However, the airline confirmed that no abnormalities were detected on any of the aircraft.

The matter came to light after the pilot of an Air India flight from London Heathrow to Bengaluru reported a problem with the fuel control switch on Sunday. The flight, carrying over 200 passengers, landed safely in Bengaluru on Monday morning. The aircraft was subsequently grounded for detailed inspection.
The airline said “in an abundance of caution" following the pilot’s observation. “No issues were identified during these checks. The inspections were undertaken in an abundance of caution following an observation reported by one of our pilots.”
“We acknowledge the regulator’s proactive oversight in conducting independent inspections and subsequently clearing the FCS," news18 quoted the airline.
India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), also conducted an independent probe into the incident. The preliminary findings indicated that prescribed procedures were not properly followed while operating the switch.
Following the investigation, the DGCA has directed Air India to re-examine and reinforce the operating procedures recommended by the aircraft manufacturer among its crew members. Air India said it will fully comply with the regulator’s instructions.
