Ahemdabad Plane Crash: Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani’s DNA was matched around 11:10 am on Sunday. His last rites will be held in Rajkot, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi confirmed. Rupani lost his life in the Air India crash in Ahmedabad on June 12.

Officials from the Chief Minister's Office were present at the civil hospital to coordinate the transportation of his mortal remains.

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi said, "Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani lost his life during the Air India crash in Ahmedabad on 12th June. Today, at around 11:10 AM, his DNA matched. He worked for the people of the state for several years."

Earlier today, Dr. Rajneesh Patel, Additional Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, stated that the bodies of those whose DNA samples have been matched are being respectfully handed over to their families. A dedicated team, comprising a senior officer, a police official, and a professional counsellor, has been assigned to each bereaved family.

Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel stated that the family members of the former Chief Minister have been informed about the DNA match.

“CM Bhupendra Patel went to the residence of former CM Vijay Rupani and informed his family that his DNA matching has been done. CM has also informed the family that the state government will support them in the further proceedings of the last rites in Rajkot. The family members will decide when they will take over his mortal remains," he told reporters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the family members of the former Chief Minister during his visit to the state, a day after the crash occurred.

About Ahmedabad Air India Plane Crash 

Rupani was among the 241 people on board the ill-fated Air India 171, which crashed on Thursday afternoon shortly after takeoff for London. A British national was the sole survivor. The government has confirmed that the black box has been recovered, and data decoding is underway to determine the cause of the crash.

The aircraft went down just seconds after takeoff, striking a building within the BJ Medical College campus in Meghaninagar, a little over a kilometre from the airport runway. The impact triggered a massive fireball, severely damaging the hostel building and killing several people on the ground, including some MBBS students.
