Air India Express Flight Diverted To Indore After Infant Suffers Breathing Issues Mid-Air; Dies

An Air India Express flight from Jaipur to Bengaluru was forced to make an emergency landing in Indore after a one-year-old passenger experienced breathing difficulties mid-flight. Flight IX1240 had been scheduled to arrive in Bengaluru later that evening, but around 8 pm, the pilot requested Air Traffic Control (ATC) to allow a medical diversion to Indore.

An ambulance was on standby at Indore Airport, and the infant was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, the child tragically passed away, according to an NDTV report.

A doctor travelling on the flight also provided medical assistance to the infant during the journey.

"On 6 January, there was a medical emergency involving an infant on our Jaipur-Bengaluru flight, prompting the crew to divert the aircraft to Indore. Immediate support was facilitated on board by the crew and a doctor travelling on the flight. The infant was rushed to a hospital upon landing. Unfortunately, the infant succumbed to the medical condition. We extend our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time," an Air India Express spokesperson said.
