Air India News: In an alarming incident mid-flight, passengers on board an Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai were startled to find cockroaches crawling inside the cabin. The airline confirmed that the insects were noticed by two travellers during the journey, which included a stopover in Kolkata. The incident raised fresh concerns over in-flight hygiene and pest control, especially on long-haul international routes.

“On flight AI180 from San Francisco to Mumbai via Kolkata, two passengers were unfortunately bothered by the presence of a few small cockroaches on board,” an Air India spokesperson stated. The crew promptly moved the affected passengers to different seats in the same cabin where they could travel more comfortably.

The airline further clarified that the aircraft underwent a thorough cleaning during its scheduled refueling stop in Kolkata. “During the flight’s scheduled fuel stop in Kolkata, our ground crew promptly conducted a deep cleaning process to address the issue. The same aircraft subsequently departed in time for Mumbai,” the spokesperson said.

Despite regular fumigation efforts, Air India acknowledged the challenge of completely keeping insects out. “Insects can sometimes enter an aircraft during ground operations,” the airline noted in its statement.

Separately, Air India also faced operational halts on August 3. Flight AI349, from Singapore to Chennai, was cancelled due to a maintenance issue identified before departure. “We made every possible effort to minimise the inconvenience caused,” the airline assured, adding that alternate arrangements were made for the passengers.

Earlier the same day, passengers on flight AI500 from Bhubaneswar to New Delhi were left stranded as the flight was cancelled because of abnormal cabin temperatures on the ground.
