Air India Plane Crash: The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has sharply criticised international media for publishing "selective and unverified" reports related to the recent Air India plane crash involving a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on June 12. The bureau expressed concern over premature conclusions being drawn while the investigation is still underway, calling for restraint and patience until the official findings are released.

The AAIB’s statement followed a detailed report published by the Wall Street Journal, which claimed that cockpit voice recorder audio suggested senior pilot Captain Sumeet Sabharwal had allegedly cut off the fuel supply mid-flight, leading to a sudden loss of engine thrust.

Rejecting the implications of preliminary reports, the AAIB stated, "It is unfortunate and irresponsible that selective and unverified information is being presented by a section of the international media." The agency further added that such speculative reporting could distort public understanding of the event and undermine the ongoing investigation.

"Essential to respect sensitivity of family members of deceased passengers, crew and others who died on ground due to plane crash" said AAIB.

In its preliminary findings shared earlier this month, the AAIB confirmed that the aircraft’s fuel control switches typically designed to remain in place were discovered to have moved from the ‘RUN’ to the ‘CUT’ position, thereby halting fuel supply to the engines. However, the bureau has not attributed responsibility and continues to examine technical and human factors.

AAIB says it will publish updates on Air India plane crash that have technical, public interest as and when required, PTI reported.

AAIB added that the preliminary report has to be seen in this light. "At this stage, it is too early to reach to any definite conclusions. The investigation by AAIB is still not complete. The Final Investigation Report will come out with root causes and recommendations."

The whole purpose of the AAIB's investigation and preliminary report is to provide information about 'WHAT' happened, the investigating agency said.

The agency urged the public and the media to wait for the final report before making assumptions, reinforcing that aviation investigations are complex and take time to establish a comprehensive and factual account of what went wrong.
