Ajit Pawar Death: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s death in a plane crash on Wednesday morning has sent shockwaves through Maharashtra’s political landscape, coming at a time when speculations were rife about a possible reunion between the two rival NCP factions led by Ajit Pawar and his uncle, Sharad Pawar. Ajit Pawar's tragic death has also prompted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to demand a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the Baramati plane crash, which killed Pawar and four others.

As per news agency PTI, Learjet 45 operated by VSR Ventures Private Limited, crashed while attempting to land at Baramati airport. According to preliminary information, the aircraft encountered instability while landing due to dense fog, causing it to lose balance and crash-land in a nearby field.

Ajit Pawar initially rose through the ranks as a trusted supporter of his uncle, Sharad Pawar within the NCP. Their relationship later turned messy after Ajit broke away from the NCP in July 2023 and aligned himself with a different coalition to join the Maharashtra government, resulting in a formal split within the party.

Ajit Pawar joined the then Eknath Shinde government along with eight MLAs in July 2024. He managed to retain NCP’s name and the 'clock' symbol, while Sharad Pawar's faction is now called NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) with a different symbol.

Sanjay Raut’s Bold Claim About Ajit Pawar's Return

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on January 24 had claimed that the two factions of the NCP will come together and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will return to the Maha Vikas Aghadi, as his heart is with his family.

Speaking to reporters, Raut claimed that the ruling NCP has merged with Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) as both are contesting on the 'clock' poll symbol in the upcoming Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in the state.

"Though Ajit Pawar is part of the Mahayuti, he is still connected with the MVA. Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar will come together as part of the MVA. Ajit Pawar cannot step on two stones," he said.
