Amarnath Yatra 2026:The Shri Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended from Sunday, July 19, after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of adverse weather conditions over the next few days. The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday announced that the pilgrimage has been halted on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of devotees.

Amarnath Yatra Suspended From July 19

In a statement, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said that the Shri Amarnathji Yatra will remain temporarily suspended from July 19 on both the routes. He said the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims. Garg added that no onward movement of pilgrims will be allowed from the Baltal and Nunwan/Chandanwari base camps from Sunday until further notice.

He said updates on the resumption of the Yatra will be issued after assessing weather conditions and ensuring the safety of the routes. The statement by the Information & PR Department read: “In view of inclement weather forecast issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shri Amarnathji Yatra shall remain temporarily suspended from both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes with effect from 19.07.2026 as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of the pilgrims.”

Both Routes Closed Until Further Notice

“Accordingly, no onward movement of pilgrims will be permitted from the Baltal and Nunwan/ Chandanwari base camp from 19.07.2026. Updates regarding the resumption of Yatra shall be issued in due course of time after ensuring route safety and comprehensive assessment of the weather conditions", the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said,” the statement further read.

Amarnath Yatra 2026

According to the official, so far, more than 3.7 lakh pilgrims have offered prayers at the Holy Cave Shrine during the ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra. Notably, the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026 officially began on July 3. The 57-day pilgrimage, managed by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), is scheduled to conclude on August 28, coinciding with the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
