Uttarakhand Schools Closed On Monday: Schools in Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts of Uttarakhand will remain closed on Monday, September 7, 2026, amid warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions.
District administrations have announced one-day holidays for schools and, where applicable, Anganwadi centres, citing student safety concerns. The decisions follow weather alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, and concerns over rising water levels, water flow in rivers and streams, lightning and possible landslides.
Champawat Schools To Remain Closed
In Champawat, all government, council-run, aided and recognised private schools from Classes 1 to 12 will remain closed on September 7. All Anganwadi centres in the district will also remain closed.
The order was issued by the District Magistrate and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Champawat, Manish Kumar, citing the possibility of heavy rainfall and rising water levels in rivers and streams.
To ensure that students’ education is not disrupted, teaching activities will be conducted through online mode during the closure.
Udham Singh Nagar Schools To Remain Closed
In Udham Singh Nagar, all government, aided and private schools up to Class 12 will remain closed on September 7. The holiday also applies to Anganwadi centres.
The district administration cited an Orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department and the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning.
Authorities also noted that continued rainfall in the hilly areas has resulted in rising water levels in rivers flowing through the district, creating potential safety risks for students.
Nainital Schools And Anganwadi Centres Closed
In Nainital, all government, aided and private educational institutions conducting Classes 1 to 12 will remain closed on September 7. All Anganwadi centres will also observe the holiday.
The decision was taken following an IMD warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and intense spells of rain. The administration has also warned of increased water flow in rivers, streams and seasonal channels and possible landslides at vulnerable locations.
The holiday will also apply to principals, headmasters, teachers and office staff.
However, the order does not apply to residential/boarding schools in Nainital city where educational and residential facilities are available within the same campus.
Heavy Rain And Landslide Risk Across Districts
The three districts are experiencing rainfall amid forecasts of further intense showers. Authorities have taken precautionary measures to prevent weather-related incidents and protect students.
Residents and parents have been advised to remain cautious during heavy rainfall, avoid sending children near rivers, streams and waterlogged areas, and follow official weather and district administration updates.
The respective education officials and district authorities have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the closure orders. Violations of the orders may invite necessary action under applicable disaster management provisions.
