  3. Dehradun, Nainital among districts expecting continued rainfall.

Uttarakhand has been experiencing monsoon conditions since July, with heavy rainfall causing road blockages, landslides, power cuts, school closures and widespread disruption to daily life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the state until August 28, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and squalls in several areas, including Dehradun and Nainital.

According to the Meteorological Department, the rainy weather is likely to continue across the state over the next few days.

In Dehradun, Friday began with intermittent sunshine and cloudy conditions. By evening, the sky was heavily overcast, with a strong possibility of late-night rain. In parts of the Garhwal division, isolated areas in the hills received intermittent drizzle, while sunny conditions in the plains led to a rise in temperatures.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in several parts of Uttarakhand today. A warning of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning has been issued for Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Champawat, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar and Nainital for Saturday.

Continuous rainfall has also affected tourism in the state. Tourist footfall over the weekend has remained extremely low, leaving hotel rooms vacant despite 50 per cent discounts. Meanwhile, 15 roads in Nainital district remain closed due to rain-related disruptions.
