Uttarakhand School Holiday On Monday: Nainital district administration has announced a one-day holiday for all government, aided and private schools from Classes 1 to 12 on Monday, September 7, 2026, following a weather warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun.
The order has been issued in view of the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and intense spells of rain across the district. The administration has also warned of strong water flow in rivers, streams and drains, along with possible landslides at vulnerable locations.
Nainital Schools, Anganwadi Centres To Remain Closed
According to the order issued by Nainital District Magistrate Lalit Mohan Ryal on September 6, all government, semi-government and private educational institutions conducting Classes 1 to 12 will remain closed on September 7.
The closure will also apply to all Anganwadi centres across Nainital district. The order has been issued as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and children amid adverse weather conditions.
Teachers And School Staff Also Granted Holiday
The administration has clarified that the holiday will also be applicable to principals, headmasters, teachers and office staff working in the affected schools.
The Chief Education Officer and District Programme Officer have been directed to ensure that the order is communicated to and implemented by all concerned educational institutions and Anganwadi centres.
Heavy Rain, Lightning And Landslide Risk
The IMD forecast issued on September 6 has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places in Nainital district on September 7. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and intense to very intense spells of rain are also possible.
The administration noted that rainfall is currently occurring across both the hilly and plain areas of the district. As a result, water flow in rivers, streams and seasonal channels may increase rapidly, while landslides may occur at vulnerable locations.
Residential Schools In Nainital City Exempted
The holiday order will not apply to residential educational institutions and schools operating within Nainital city where educational and residential facilities for students are available on the same campus. Authorities have warned that any violation of the order may invite necessary action against the concerned institution or officials.
The district administration has directed all concerned departments and educational authorities to ensure strict compliance with the September 7 closure order.
