Amethi Murder Case: In the latest revelation in the killing of a Dalit school teacher, his wife, and two minor daughters in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi, the police on Friday said that the incident was a fallout of an illicit relationship gone sour.

"The main accused Chandan Verma, was arrested near a toll plaza in Noida. He was on his way to Delhi," said Superintendent of Police Anoop Kumar Singh. He also mentioned that the accused also tried to shoot himself after he killed the family, however, the gun misfired.

The officer reports that the accused has admitted to the crimes and claimed to have had an 18-month affair with the teacher's wife, which turned sour later and resulted in him shooting the family. Verma had fired ten shots from a pistol, according to Singh.

Speaking about the social media post the accused had put up mentioning "five people are going to die", the police mentioned that he was the fifth person, however, his suicide attempt failed.

"He intended to shoot himself after killing the family of four. He was the fifth person but his suicide attempt failed," he said.

The incident took place on Thursday, a government school teacher,his 32-year-old wife Poonam, and the couple's two daughters, Drishti and Suni, were shot dead in the Ahorwa Bhawani area of Amethi.

According to the preliminary investigation, Poonam had filed an FIR against Verma in Raebareli on August 18 under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and for eve-teasing.

The complainant had also mentioned that "if anything happens to her or her family", Verma should be held responsible for it.
