Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the two-day All-India Forensic Science Summit (AIFSS) at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday. The event was organised by the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) under the theme “The Role of Forensic Science in Effective Implementation of New Criminal Laws and Combating Terrorism.”

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Justice Rajesh Bindal, Judge, Supreme Court of India; Attorney General Shri R Venkataramani; Justice V Ramasubramanian; NHRC Chairperson; Shri Manan Kumar Mishra, Chairman, Bar Council of India; and Union Home Secretary Shri Govind Mohan.

During the event, Home Minister Shah launched two key publications — “Unfolding Forensics”, a judicial primer for courts, and the Proceedings of All India Forensic Sciences Summit 2025. He also distributed awards to winners of the All India Forensic Science Hackathon and the Inter-campus Hindi competition.

In his address, HM Shah praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in transforming the criminal justice system. He emphasised the importance of integrating forensic science to ensure justice for both the accused and the complainant. Shah also highlighted NFSU’s growing role in training professionals, conducting research and equipping forensic labs with modern technology.

He also noted that NFSU, established in 2020, is offering various programs including degrees, diplomas, PhDs, and has developed indigenous forensic toolkits for use by police forces across India.

Padma Shri Awardee JM Vyas, Vice Chancellor of NFSU, shared that the university runs 72 academic courses and has trained over 50,000 officers globally. He said NFSU operates on a unique educational model combining education, research, training, consultancy, and investigation, with plans to expand from 10 to 19 campuses.

The event saw participation from international delegates, forensic experts, law enforcement officers and students from across the country.
