Waris Punjab De chief and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh’s father has been placed under house arrest since Tuesday morning at his residence in Amritsar’s Jallupur Khera village. A heavy police force has been deployed in the area and the house has been cordoned off from all sides.   

Notably, Tarsem Singh, father of Khalistani sympathiser, announced he would float a political party soon. According to information, divulged by Jagran.com, Tarsem was supposed to announce the formation of the new party and its office-bearers during the Maghi Mela after consulting with Amritpal Singh. He was expected to attend the event with his supporters under the Koumi Insaf Morcha banner.

Villagers reported that the police began gathering in the village late Monday night. By Tuesday, the entire village was surrounded by them. More than 100 policemen were stationed outside Amritpal Singh's house. Currently, police officials have not commented on the situation.

Balwinder Kaur, Amritpal's mother, said that she, along with her husband, was planning to participate in the morcha in Mohali. She alleged police prevented them from leaving the house, as per TOI. Tarsem Singh accused the Punjab police of snatching their democratic rights of peaceful protest. Besides, he appealed people to gather in large numbers at the morcha site in Mohali.

SSP Amritsar Rural, Charanjit Singh, said that the decision to block the jailed MP’s family was taken to avoid unrest in the area as they did not comply with the police request. He said they were now in preventive custody, as per the aforementioned news outlet.
