In the latest development, security was tightened at Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport in Amritsar on Sunday. This came after access to the gurdwara located within the airport premises was restricted due to safety concerns. However, the Police confirmed that there was no drone activity in Amritsar and they and urged the public not to believe or circulate misinformation.
Providing details, ACP Amritsar Airport Yadwinder Singh said, "Situation is peaceful. Some rumours are being spread. But there is adequate security. It is peaceful now, there is no drone activity. People should not panic. I appeal to the media to verify the reports coming to them and then display them. It is essential to verify the false rumours being spread by people."
He added that the security personnel have been stationed outside the airport, and each movement is being monitored and the entry to the Gurugwara was denied to the devotees due to precautionary security measures.
A devotee spoke to the news agency ANI and said "This is Baba Guru Nanak's Gurdwara inside the airport premises. I have been coming here every Sunday for the past eight years. It is closed now, I am going back."
Another devotee named Dhyan Singh said, "We had come to the Gurdwara to pay obeisance. I go there every Sunday. But today, it is closed due to security reasons."
Meanwhile, the situation remained under control in the entire Punjab with no incidents of drone sighting, firing, or shelling reported during the night in both Pathankot and Firozpur.
It must be noted that the Indian DGMO received a call from his Pakistani counterpart, and a consensus was reached to stop the fighting that started in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack on Saturday.
Hours later, drones were sighted and intercepted at several locations in Srinagar, parts of Rajasthan, and Punjab. The armed forces responded to the Pakistani misadventure.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri warned Pakistan to act as per the understanding and refrain from violating it, as it would call for retaliatory action. Against the breach by Pakistan on Saturday evening, the Indian army retaliated and dealt with the border intrusions.
