Major Dhonchak of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles (19 RR), Colonel Manpreet Singh (41), the commanding officer of the 19 RR, and Deputy SP Himayun Bhat of the J&K Police were all killed on Wednesday during an encounter with militants in Anantnag, Kashmir.
Major Dhonchak was supposed to come home next month on October 23 to attend a housewarming ceremony. It was also his birthday on the same day as he was about to turn 42 years old, but destiny had some other plans for the braveheart.
Major Ashish Dhonchak returned to duty in May after attending his brother-in-law's wedding in Jind. He has been on duty ever since and has not returned home. He hails from the village of Binjhol in Panipat, Haryana. He had taken time off work to attend the housewarming ceremony for his family's new home in TDI.
He is survived by a two-year-old daughter, a wife, and three doting sisters.
