In a road mishap in Andhra Pradesh's Annamaya district, as many as five people were killed and eleven sustained injuries after a lorry collided with a jeep carrying pilgrims. The incident took place on Friday morning, according to police.

According to officials, there were two men and three women among the deceased, while seven of the total injured were believed to be in bad condition.

"A total of five people perished in the accident. Of the injured persons, seven are said to be in serious condition. They are admitted at the Tirupati Rua Hospital," Nagababu, circle inspector, Methampally was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

With seven of the injured in critical condition, the death toll is expected to rise, police said.

The specific reason for the incident has not yet been determined, according to police.

The images obtained by ANI showed that the front half of the lorry was destroyed as a result of the collision, while the jeep was twisted.

The lorry was on its way to Chittor from Kadapa, and the jeep was carrying 16 pilgrims returning from Tirumala to Belagavi, Karnataka when the two vehicles collided.
