Annamalai Resignation: Annamalai, former BJP chief of Tamil Nadu and one of the leading faces of the party in the state, resigned from the party on Tuesday. He resigned from the party during a high-level meeting with BJP chief Nitin Nabin. The resignation has come amid the reports of him forming a new political movement in Tamil Nadu, allegedly after seeing no future in the BJP. Annamalai is also likely to meet Home Minister Amit Shah around 4 PM to discuss the issue. 

Earlier on Monday, on being asked about his political future, Annamalai stated that he will disclose the details in the near future. "Please wait. We will sit down and talk in two days," the former BJP state chief told the reporters. The speculations of a new party emerged after Annamalai was allegedly sidelined from the party politics, especially after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Why Has He Resigned? 

While the former bureaucrat was a leading face of BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, he was largely sidelined after the poor results. His future became even more uncertain after the saffron party joined hands with AIADMK, a party Annamalai had criticised on multiple occasions.

Apart from this, Annamalai has also expressed a different opinion on issues like third language policy, a critical matter in the southern state. He joined the BJP in 2020 and served as the Tamil Nadu BJP president from 2021 to 2025.

During his tenure, he emerged as one of the BJP’s most prominent leaders in the southern state. Known for his aggressive campaigning style, Annamalai travelled extensively across the state and built a strong support base among youngsters and social media users.

Space For New Party

With the traditional parties DMK and AIADMK on a potential decline, a new front has a chance of growing in Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister Vijay-led TVK surprised everyone by emerging as the single largest party in the 2026 assembly election.
