Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday stated that the BJP leaders were spreading fake news regarding the funds received by the US, adding that while doing so, the ruling party leaders were involved in “anti-national work”. He further asked why the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and external affairs minister S Jaishankar have not responded to the allegations from US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
“BJP is a procession of liars and illiterates. The news about USD 21 million, on which the BJP and their bootlickers were jumping on, turned out to be fake. The USD 21 million in 2022 was not for 'voter turnout' in India, but for Bangladesh,” Ramesh stated in a post on X.

He further stated that the BJP leaders accused the opposition parties of being benefitted from the foreign powers. He further added that the saffron party leaders have not released a single statement after it was verified that the fund was not for India. “But now it is coming to light that this entire news is fake. When the money has not even reached India, then what would be the cancellation?” Ramesh asked.
“Now the BJP should just answer this: Why did the BJP spread fake news about India's democracy? Why did the BJP did anti-national work by spreading fake news from America? If BJP's accusing India's opposition party over fake news from America is not treason, then what is it?” he said.
Jairam Ramesh also asked that why the government was silent while the US officials allegedly insulted India. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will also have to answer. Donald Trump and Elon Musk are insulting India again and again, and why is our government silent on this?” Ramesh asked.
A massive political row escalated in India after Elon Musk-led DOGE stated that it was cancelling "$21M for voter turnout in India". While the BJP leaders accused the opposition leaders of getting benefits from the fund, the Congress stated that the ruling party has been very defensive over the allegations from the US.
