Armstrong Murder:  The body of Tamil Nadu BSP Chief K Armstrong, who was brutally killed by six bike-borne attackers near his Chennai home on Friday, can not be buried at the party office, Madras High Court ruled on Sunday. The court order upheld the stand of the ruling DMK government in the state. This came following a plea by the wife of a slain BSP leader in the High Court. She had asked permission for the burial of Armstrong's body at the party office in Chennai.

However, the local civic body had argued that the Bahujan Samaj Party Chennai office was not suitable for a burial procession as it is located at the end of a narrow street and crowding there could lead to a stampede-like situation.

After hearing the arguments of the local body, the High Court denied the permission to Armstrong's wife. However, it allowed the burial at an alternate site - one-acre privately owned land in the adjoining Thiruvalluvar district. The High Court further directed the party to peacefully take out the funeral procession.

A bench of Justice V Bhavani Subbarayan observed that the location demanded by the petitioner was a passage, which can not be granted for the above purpose. Later, it asked Armstrong's wife for an alternate land, to which Thiruvalluvar spot was suggested. The local panchayat has made all the arrangements there, NDTV reported.

The BSP leader's family also requested to establish a memorial for his memory. The court noted that the petitioners should first take out the funeral procession and the memorial request can be discussed with the state government later.
