Pakistan has reacted to the Supreme Court verdict that on Monday upheld the Centre’s decision to abolish Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. Reacting to the development, Islamabad said the move has ‘no legal value’ as International law does not recognise New Delhi's "unilateral and illegal actions" of August 5, 2019.

“International law doesn't recognize India’s unilateral and illegal actions of 5 August 2019. The judicial endorsement by the Indian Supreme Court has no legal value. Kashmiris have an inalienable right to self determination in accordance with the relevant UN SC resolutions,” Pakistan’s caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani posted on X (formerly Twitter).

In a press conference, Jilani said India has no right to unilaterally decide on the status of the ‘disputed territory’ against the will of Kashmiri people and Pakistan, news agency PTI reported.
The Supreme Court on Monday, while pronouncing the judgment on a plethora of pleas challenging the annulment of special provisions given to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370, said the arrangement was temporary due to war conditions in the State and it was a feature of an “asymmetric federalism”. The apex court also maintained that J-K did not retain sovereignty while accessing India.
The Supreme Court Bench, comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai and Surya Kant, delivered the key verdict on the legitimacy of Article 370.
CJI DY Chandrachud said the textual readings and marginal notes in context with Article 370 suggest it was not permanent.

Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul proposed the formation of an impartial ‘Truth and Reconciliation’ committee to probe and report on the violations of human rights by the State and non-state actors at least since the 1980s. He said the initiative would enable forgiveness for the wounds of the past and form the basis of achieving a shared national identity.
