Arvind Kejriwal News Live: Delhi Chief Minister and national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party, Arvind Kejriwal, visited Rajghat ahead of his scheduled surrender at the Tihar jail later today. Kejriwal with his wife Sunita paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi's memorial during his visit. He also visited the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place ahead of surrendering to Tihar Jail authorities on Sunday.
The AAP supremo was on a three-week interim bail provided by the Supreme Court. The bail ended on Saturday, following which he will have to surrender today. Earlier, a Delhi court deferred hearing on his urgent interim bail on medical grounds to June 5.
Soon after he offered prayers at the Hanuman temple at the Connaught Place, CM Kejriwal addressed the party workers. In his address, Kejriwal said that he did not miss even a single minute of the 21 days of interim bail.
"I did not campaign only for AAP but for various parties. I went to Mumbai, Haryana, UP, Jharkhand...AAP is not important, for us the country is important,” Kejriwal said.
‘Raised My Voice Against Dictatorship’
Kejriwal attacked the BJP in his speech to party cadre, saying that he is not going to jail because of any involvement in corruption, but because he raised his voice against dictatorship.
“I want to tell the people of Delhi - your son is returning to jail today. This is not because I am involved in any corruption but because I have raised my voice against dictatorship. During (the Lok Sabha election) campaigning, the PM accepted that they didn't have any proof against me. They have raided more than 500 places but have not recovered a single penny,” Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal, who received interim bail from the Supreme Court on May 10, will surrender himself a day after the Lok Sabha election voting concluded on Saturday. The bail was granted to allow the AAP leader to campaign during the elections despite ongoing legal battles over a money laundering case connected to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.
