Days after Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman was released from the Indian Premier League (IPL), AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has slammed the centre for its approach. Owaisi pointed out that while the cricketer was not allowed to participate in the tournament, ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been living in India for the past several months. The AIMIM chief also pointed out that India played a cricket match against Pakistan weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) directed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Rahman after facing backlash amid the atrocity against minorities in Bangladesh.

Owaisi stated that while Hasina (without taking any name) has been living in India, Rahman was targeted by the authorities. "A Bangladeshi woman is living in India, so send her also. Why is she being stopped in the country? Stability in Bangladesh is important for India. China and Pakistan are active in Bangladesh. We have to look into that too," Owaisi stated. He further reminded that India had played a cricket match against Pakistan even after 26 tourists were killed in Pahalgam.

"After the Pahalgam attack, we played with Pakistan in the Asia Cup," the AIMIM chief asserted. Apart from Owaisi, several other leaders, including Congress senior leader Shashi Tharoor, have also questioned the BCCI's decision. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Tharoor stated that the cricket board was "mindlessly" politicising the issue.

"Recalling my views on the subject, now that @bcci has deplorably pulled the plug on Mustafizur Rahman. And what if the Bangladeshi player in question had been Litton Das or Soumya Sarkar? Who are we punishing here: a nation, an individual, his religion? Where will this mindless politicising of sport lead us?" Tharoor stated. A massive outrage in India after two Hindu men were brutally killed in Bangladesh in the past few days.
