A 10-year-old boy was found dead at the residence of BJP MP Rajdeep Roy in Assam's Silchar on Saturday. The police suspect suicide as the boy, a Class 5 student, was found hanging inside a room. The body was sent for a post mortem at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
The boy, who was also named Rajdeep Roy, used to stay at the MP's house with his mother and elder sister, a Hindustan Times report cited his family. His mother worked as a house help at the BJP MP's house. The family hailed from Palong Ghat in Cachar district.
The woman reportedly brought her children to Silchar a few years ago in order to provide them better education, according to a family member.
According to the police, it appears to be a case of suicide prima facie. Further, the child was allegedly upset with his mother for not getting him a mobile phone to play video games, according to the family members' account to police.

BJP MP Rajdeep Roy said he rushed home on being informed about the incident. Addressing the media on the issue, Roy said the room's door was locked from inside and had to be broken down by the police. The boy was found unconscious in the room and was immediately taken to the a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
"My staff called the police. They broke open the locked room and took the body to the medical college, but he was declared dead. I immediately called SP Numal Mahatta and urged the police to follow SOPs for investigation because it was an alleged suicide case," said the Silchar MP.
