Assam Floods: The flood situation in Assam remained dire on Thursday, affecting about seven lakh people across 21 districts and displaying an increasing trend in the water level of key rivers, according to authorities.
Two more people were killed on Wednesday, bringing the total number of fatalities from the initial wave of landslides and floods to 19. In the Cachar district, one individual went missing.
In the Cachar district, the River Barak was running over the danger threshold, and its tributaries were also exhibiting a rising trend, with several rivers flowing beyond the red mark.
Nine main rivers, including the Brahmaputra at three locations, were flowing above the danger level throughout the state.
Around 1,494 villages in 66 revenue circles have been impacted by the recent floods, with the biggest number of them being 339 in Sribhumi, 189 in Nagaon, 166 in Cachar, and 156 in Hailakandi districts.

The report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) states that Sribhumi is the most severely hit, with 2,59,601 people reeling under flood water, followed by Hailakandi (1,72,439) and Nagaon (1,02,716).
Till now, 14977.99 hectares of cropland have been submerged beneath floodwater. There have been around 5,15,737 impacted animals.
There have been reports of damage to roads, bridges, schools, Anganwadi centres, power poles, and other infrastructure from all throughout the state. Dibrugarh, Morigaon, Hojai, Kamrup, Nagaon, Golaghat, Biwanath, Cachar, Sribhumi, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Darrang, Barpeta, Goalpara, South Salmara, Karbi Anglong West, Dima Hasao, Sivasagar, Kamrup (Metro), and Dhemaji are the districts that are impacted.
