Two more deaths were reported in Assam on Wednesday, bringing the total death toll from floods and landslides in the northeast to 50. According to officials, relentless heavy rainfall has impacted over 6.7 lakh people across the region.
In Assam, the state government has confirmed that 19 people have died so far 14 due to floods and 5 due to landslides. The flood situation in Morigaon district remains critical, with 101 villages affected by rising waters.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 6,79,423 people across 21 districts have been affected by the floods. Cropland spanning 14,977.99 hectares has been submerged, and over 1.57 lakh people have sought shelter in relief camps and distribution centres.
Sribhumi in Assam has reported the highest number of flood-affected people at 2,59,601, followed by Hailakandi with 1,72,439 and Nagaon with 1,02,716. To support those displaced, the state is operating 190 relief camps, currently sheltering 39,746 people.
Death Toll Acress Seven Northeastern States
The death toll from floods and landslides across seven northeastern states, including Sikkim, has risen to 50. Since May 29, Assam alone has reported 19 deaths. According to official data, 12 people have died in Arunachal Pradesh, 6 in Meghalaya, 5 in Mizoram, 4 in Sikkim, 2 in Tripura, and one each in Nagaland and Manipur.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We stand together with them in these difficult times.”
Manipur continues to battle floods triggered by heavy rainfall and river breaches, affecting around 1.6 lakh people, mostly in the Imphal Valley. Landslides have also impacted several hill districts, with Jiribam among the worst-hit. District Magistrate Krishna Kumar visited flood-affected areas on Wednesday to assess the situation.
In Mizoram, schools reopened after a four-day closure, though authorities have advised outsiders to avoid visiting the state until June 13 due to ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Arunachal Pradesh remains troubled by floodwaters and landslides, with over 3,000 people affected across 23 districts. Vehicular movement is disrupted in many areas.
Sikkim is also facing a critical situation due to relentless rain and landslides. On Wednesday, the Indian Air Force rescued 33 people, including two US nationals, from North Sikkim, the worst-affected region in the state.
