Ayodhya is gearing up preparations for the consecration ceremony of Ayodhya Ram Mandir on January 22, which is expected to be attended by thousands of devotees. In build-up to the inauguration of the temple a Dhawaja Stambh (flag post), weighing 5,500 kg and 44 feet tall, made up of brass landed in Ayodhya on Monday.

The flag post, which is one of India’s tallest and heaviest flag posts, has been built by an Ahmedabad-based firm. The Dhwaja Stambh or Dhwaja Dand was brought to Ayodhya in a special chariot after it was flagged off by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on January 5 in Ahmedabad.

Officials from Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Teerth Kshetra Trust, which is responsible for the construction and management of the temple said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to hoist a saffron flag associated with a temple on the flag post during the inauguration ceremony, reported news News18.

Significance Of Dhwaja Stambh In Temple

The Dhwaja Stambh or the flag post is one of the most important features of any Hindu temple. It is a permanent fixture as it cannot be replaced or changed until the temple exists, unlike other parts of the temple. Along with the idol of the deity and the Kalash, the flag post is one of the three things that remain in the temple forever.

The Dhwaja Stambh for the Ayodhya Ram Mandir was crafted from pure brass, following the ancient principles of Shilp Shastra. It is 44 feet long, 9.5 inches wide, and weighs 5,500 kg.
