Patanjali founder and renowned yoga practitioner Baba Ramdev on Friday made an appeal to Indians ahead of Diwali, urging them to embrace “swadeshi” by buying local products. He emphasised that despite ongoing “tariff terrorism,” India has emerged as the world’s largest market and stressed that the country should not be allowed to be “looted” by foreigners.

“India should be independent. On one hand, tariff terrorism is going on, and on the other side, India has become the world's largest market. And we have left it to be robbed by the foreigners. Our Prime Minister, and all our cultural, social, and religious organisations, are calling for protecting our nation by going ‘swadeshi,” news agency PTI quoted Ramdev as saying.

With the festive season approaching, Baba Ramdev has made a strong appeal to the people, urging them to buy Indian-made goods and reject imported goods. He further said that if every citizen committed to buying swadeshi products, India would become so powerful that no one would dare to threaten it.

“On Diwali, our diyas should be swadeshi, our lights should be swadeshi and all the gifts should also be swadeshi. If we take the pledge to go swadeshi, then all the powers in the world will have to bow in front of India and no one will dare to threaten India,” he added.

In a stern message to the world, Ramdev said, “Bharat ko aankh jo dikhaega, uski aakhein hum nikaal lenge,” which roughly translates to, “Whoever dares to challenge India will face severe consequences.”

He urged citizens to embrace Swadeshi for “our country, our Bharat Mata’s respect, and to protect our country from these foreign conspiratorial forces”.

Ramdev also expressed optimism about India’s development trajectory, stating that the swadeshi campaign is already creating positive change. “I don’t think we have to wait till 2047. If we continue this campaign, India could become a developed nation by 2040,” he added.
