Babri Masjid: A day after suspended TMC leader Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone to build a mosque similar to the demolished Babri masjid on December 6, 1992, 33 years ago in Ayodhya, a Hyderabad organisation announced that it will build a memorial dedicated to the razed Babri Masjid. The Hyderabad-based muslim organisation also announced that it will set up welfare facilities as well.

According to a report by the News agency ANI, the President of Tahreek Muslim Shabban, Mushtaq Malik, made the announcement while addressing an event organised on the 33rd anniversary of the Babri Masjid Demolition.

The Babri Masjid demolition anniversary was observed with a routine meeting, Malik said. "At that meeting, we decided that a memorial for the Babri Masjid would be built in Greater Hyderabad, and some welfare institutions would also be built within it. We will soon announce how it will be built and by when,” he added.

On the controversy around Babur’s name, Mushtaq Malik said that the controversy was rooted in propaganda, and no one should have a problem with the name Babur. “No one should be bothered by the name of Babur. There was no evidence that any revenue came from Babur's side to build the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya,” Mushtaq Malik was quoted as saying by ANI.

Calling the debate ‘political Propaganda’ and asserting that Mughal-era practices insisted on religious co-existence, Malik added, “This is done to divide the country. The brotherhood that existed between Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, and Dalits has been shattered by this, and the seeds of hatred have been sown.”

Babri Masjid Demolition

The Babri Masjid was demolished on December 6, 1992, by a large crowd of kar sevaks who believed the site marked the birthplace of Lord Ram and that an ancient Ram temple had once stood there.

In its landmark 2019 verdict, the Supreme Court awarded the disputed land to a trust for the construction of a Ram Mandir while directing the government to allot an alternative five-acre plot for a mosque. The grand Ram Temple was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2024.
